Choice expands its delivery of homes to include their winged friends— birds and bats!
Choice are continuing to address the biodiversity crisis by considering how they can protect and enhance existing habitats. Over 20 bird or bat boxes have been installed at one of Choice’s new housing developments in Lisburn.
Choice alongside the help of Choice Services installed single bat boxes, multi-chamber bat roosts, and different types of bird boxes, to house a range of birds such as robins, wrens, blackbirds and blue tits. Many of these new homes have also been located close to an area which was recently planted with wildflowers, providing food for pollinating insects, birds and bats. Swift boxes are also being fitted on the new apartment blocks at the housing development which are due to be completed later this year.
This installation follows recent biodiversity work delivered by Choice in Ballymena, where 150 native trees were planted. It is hoped that these trees will provide future homes for an array of flora and fauna, from shade-loving plants and fungi to small mammals and rare insects.
Choice are delighted to engage with stakeholders and tenants on biodiversity projects to support and enhance the environment. The bird and bat box project coincides with the RSPB ‘Big Garden Birdwatch’, the world’s largest garden wildlife survey, taking place from place 24th-26th January.
Choice encourages both tenants and stakeholders to take part!
