Tenants of Hill Court, a sheltered living scheme in Lurgan, came together to celebrate 35 successful years of independent living in their supportive community.
The Lord Mayor of Armagh, City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council Councillor Sarah Duffy joined tenants in their celebrations alongside council colleague Cllr Mary O’Dowd.
The festivities brought together family, friends and Choice Housing staff including former scheme coordinator and now full-time resident Joan Wright.
Carol Ervine, Choice Group Director of Tenant & Client Services attended the celebration,
“Hill Court marking 35 years in the local community is testament to the scheme standing the test of time and the tenants play a significant role in this. A key element of the success of our sheltered living schemes is the interaction and engagement with and between tenants, making it a place people want to live.
“Alongside our commitment to delivering more quality, affordable homes across the region, Choice is equally committed to investing in all of our existing schemes. This will ensure the longevity of our housing provision, and it is why these milestones are vitally important and should be celebrated.”
Hill Court tenants enjoy a range of weekly activities and initiatives including quizzes, bingo, Friday Fry-Day and karaoke nights.
Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, Councillor Sarah Duffy said:
“I was delighted to visit Hill Court and wish both the tenants and all at Choice Housing a very happy 35th anniversary of serving the people of Lurgan. There was a great atmosphere amongst the tenants, which makes Hill Court very special, and I wish all involved every success for the future.”
The scheme has been home to tenant Jean Morrow, who has been a resident at Hill Court since it opened in 1989 and will celebrate her 104th birthday later this year.
Hill Court has been part of the local Lurgan community for a long time, providing tenants with safe and independent living close to a range of public amenities. Located on Hill Street in Lurgan, Hill Court is a 10-minute walk from the town centre, and is close to the local health centre, churches and shops with good transport links to neighbouring Craigavon, Portadown and Lisburn.
