Choice Housing, one of Northern Ireland’s largest housing associations has marked Good Relations Week by bringing almost 400 runners to Dungannon to compete in the one-mile road relay in partnership with Galbally Runners.

People of all abilities from running clubs, families, sporting clubs, businesses, and local schools competed on the iconic ‘Hill of the O’Neill’ in Dungannon.

The run, which forms part of a weeklong itinerary of activities and events organised by Choice was organised under the theme of ‘OpportUNITY’ – bringing together over 1,000 people from communities across Northern Ireland including runners, spectators, supporters, volunteers and organisers, all excited to be part of such a fun, positive event.

The event was supported by the Department for Communities (DfC) and the Northern Ireland Housing Executive’s ‘Housing for All’ Shared Housing Programme. The Programme has its origins in the NI Executive Together: Building a United Community Strategy which reflects the Executive’s commitment to improving community relations and continuing the journey towards a more united and shared society. A potential investment of £2.3m will be invested in Fortview shared housing development in Dungannon and associated five-year Good Relations Plan.

Jonathon Blakely, Choice Housing’s Community Development Manager said,

At Choice, our commitment extends beyond providing homes – it is about supporting the communities of which these homes are part of, facilitating much needed cross-community projects that are aimed at building relations within communities.

“The buzz around this event is amazing, with people of all levels coming out to participate or cheer on the runners – this is the type of event that encapsulates our good relations commitment, bringing communities together to develop positive community spirit.”
