Celebrations were in full swing as residents, family and staff of Choice Housing joined together at Warrenpoint’s The Rowans, a Sheltered Living Scheme to mark its 30th anniversary.
Situated in the picturesque seaside town of Warrenpoint, The Rowans is close to quite a few amenities such as the post office, public library, cafes and restaurants, pharmacies, local shops, churches catering to all denominations, health centres and a good public transport system.
The scheme itself is comprised of 41 self- contained apartments with lift access to the upper floors. This includes; 23 single bedroom apartments, 13 double bedroom apartments, 4 two bedroom apartments and 1 three bedroom apartment. Each of the apartments feature Economy 7 heating, double glazed windows and a fully fitted kitchen.
The Rowans was officially opened on 4th October 1989 by Mr W J Topley MBE, MCIT. Since then the scheme has provided much needed sheltered living in the area, striking a good balance between security and independence with a range of amenities just a short distance away. The tenants and staff at The Rowans are social and a supportive community. Afternoon tea, seasonal festivals and impromptu gatherings keep the scheme lively. Warrenpoint’s Women Group use the scheme as a meeting point at which they provide a buffet and guest speakers to which tenants are invited.
Hazel Bell, Chair of Choice said:
“I am delighted to see this scheme continue to thrive thanks to the dedication of our staff and residents who have made it their home. We are very pleased to have reached this milestone for Rowan Court. This scheme is a fantastic example of the value of Sheltered Living. Choice is committed to providing quality schemes for every tenant and the recent investment in Pound Green Court is a testament to that.”
