Family and friends joined residents and staff of Choice Housing’s Sheltered Housing Scheme Donal Casey Court, Derry~Londonderry on Wednesday, to mark their 20th anniversary.

The Sheltered Scheme, first opened in May 1998 by former SDLP leader John Hume. The development comprises 61 self – contained apartments units in total, 30 of which are sheltered and 31 are suited to those with general needs.  

The celebration event was also used to showcase the £400,000 revamp of the scheme. With the help of the residents, combined with the hard work of AMS Construction, Chris O’Rourke, Sean McGoldrick, TJ Rice and VB Evans, Choice Housing were able to upgrade the building to ensure the continued high standard tenants expect of their homes.

 Michael McDonnell, Group Chief Executive Choice said:

The renovation project ensures the scheme continues to cater for the needs of both the tenants and the community as a whole. Celebrating 20 years in the area is a testament to how the tenants have responded to the scheme and how we as an organisation are committed to ensuring its longevity”.

The scheme, which is only a couple of miles from the city of Derry~Londonderry, offers tenants secure living with independence.  Life at Donal Casey Court is lived to the full  with sports, retails and other amenities nearby.

The popular development is one of the longest-established sheltered living schemes owned by Choice, which has more than 20 years’ experience of providing housing and support services for older people.
